An unusal day with a crazy coworker

a new coworker snaps at me "next time i want your help i'll ask for it" and then leaves before i can ask what the holy fucking shit she is talking about...

so i emailed her this.

i believe in teamwork and getting the job done.. I get excited by the work WE do here, and i like to offer assistance as I can, when I can. I will extend neither courtesy to you from now on. my apologies, and no sarcasm intended in this message.

in the future, if you have further issues with my attitude or performance i would ask that we have a dialog, and not a one sided pronouncement, followed by walking away and no opportunity for discussion.

good luck and regards,
-charles

I thought she was pissed because two project managers asked me to figure out some weird projection thing involving the color black and the color white etc... got that? projection stuff... production decisions.... here is her reply:

I am completely prepared to discuss this with you on a one-on-one basis. It is unfortunate that we work in such close quarters with several other people; I think it inappropropriate to discuss this before anyone. That should go without saying, but I apparently it does not. It doesn't take a "team" to install a printer. Do you think I am incapable of installing the printer, and the printer drivers? Did you not see that is what I was doing? Do you think such a task requires two people? Don't you have your own job and responsibilities to keep you busy while I am doing mine? My professional opinion is that all of the "printer names and locations" should be uniform on all of the workstations. Having installed it on my laptop first, I was establishing a protocol for this. Why you had to jump in and take over while I am completely competent is beyond me, but thanks to you, we now have neither protocal nor uniformity. I will thank you not to turn this into a simple matter of who has the right to install a printer. It is not about the printer. This is not the first time you have done something like this, but it is getting tiring. This is what I meant when I said when I want your help I will ask for it. I would prefer you not usurp my responsibilities in the future.

Thank you for your understanding. crazy person

Who the fuck says usurping??? so now i am completely stunned cause i had no idea she is pissed about printers!!! PRINTERS! here is my reply:

This conversation is ridiculous. I have already apologized for any perceived wrong or slight.

I did not attempt (nor in my opinion, in actuality) usurp anything. I do not know why you feel so threatened by support in any fashion; but I had nothing but the utmost confidence in your abilities, and if you had simply said "i got it" or "i am following a certain protocol... etc" i would have either said, ok great, or what's the protocol so i can use it on my machine as well. Now this mole hill is a mountain.

In regards to your last statement i was not trying "to turn this into a simple matter of who has the right to install a printer..." I was merely commenting on your snapping at me and then walking away before i even had a chance to understand your issue. In fact you missed my intent altogether as, ironically, I actually thought you were referring to me getting involved in whether the background of the fila content should be black or white.

You'll notice my message did not refer to your abilities or a printer just your behavior. As I said before, i will go well out of my way to be sure i do not involve myself in any activity or topic you have any semblance of control or high involvement in.

Lastly to actually address the printer... the only reason i got involved was because you mentioned you were not sure how you were planning to wire all the computers up. I know that i have friends in the IT department and this is why i went over and asked them if I could just plug it in to their network to simplify Your job. Now i see that this was my mistake and as I have now mentioned three times, i won't be repeating it with you.

I am done with this discussion, as i have made myself perfectly unambiguous.

Good Luck and regards,
-Charles
