Airports and Humanity
how odd, that they do not seem to coexist.....
perhaps you have flown recently and noticed the trend of airlines to put a "boarding time" on your ticket instead of a flight time. I assume this is an effort to prevent people running ostentatiously late for a flight. However, for the less than literarily skilled, this seems only to confuse those i have chosen to delicately call.... mouth breathers. allow me to set the stage for you.
3,472,368.6 people in line (i am almost done and therefore about #8). It is approximately 6:15pm (note the not 6:55pm time). All of a sudden, a women comes running up, breathless, haphazard, perhaps even willy-nilly. She screeches (i couldn't make that up) Oh MY GAWD people, i am going to miss my flight. It's at 6:55 (again only 6:15) The security agent calmly looks at her ticket and responds, ma'am your flight departs at 7:25pm.
"Well," said the willy-nilly women, "then WHY does it say 6:55 on it"..... touche madam (i thought)
"Miss, it says right here your flight is at 7:25pm, then it says be on board NO EARLIER than 6:55pm"
to which she responded, "can i just go through now?"
again very calmly the security guard replied, "Ma'am, our policy is only to allow line skippies (i paraphrase here) if you are less than 15 minutes from departure."
says the willy-nilly lady: "Oh MY GAWD, don't you people know that I have a flight to catch?"
(i add emphasis only because the willy-nilly lady does.)
sigh.... as i walk away from the now beleaguered security guard I hear the couple behind me say "....just bought these bic lighters (he used the brand name, so i do as well) and now we have to throw them away??? I have been flying for years and have never had to throw my lighter away. In all my years of..........."
Frankly, as a society, we don't stand a chance.
