Depression
Why is it so much fun to be depressed?
I am listening to depressing music, on a gray day, by myself, on a train to NY. (An actual whoo whoo chugga chugga train). What I can decipher is the classic chicken/egg conundrum. Am I depressed because I feel like control is slipping away? Because I feel like life is running right past me (or over me)? Or do I feel depressed because I am listening to depressing music on a depressing day in a depressing situation?
And why does it seem so ok to be depressed? Are some people predisposed to feel down in the shitter? Are we ok with that as a society? I think socially speaking the answer is yes. Its cool, chic, even glamorous to be depressed. Sad songs are more popular, and noone ever cohappyrates (uncomiserates?) With others in a good mood. But get a room full of sad sacks together and lookout, because here comes the poopy bus.
What I can't decide is if this ok or not? Is it alright to be depressed (80s movie style, not gun-in-the-mouth style) or should I always be trying to see the bright side. Forcing myself to see the glass as half full etc.
I let you know what I decide.

ok you're asking me? the person that coined the phrase "if it hurts go to bed?" I thought you were the happy one....great if the
mensa mind is depressed what about the rest of us half-wits?! I say buck-up lil-camper or introduce yourself to prozac, wellbutrin, zoloft or perhaps instead some melodies from American Idols Carrie Underwood!
