Respect
there's an old saying that says:
When i was kid I knew everything, and my parents were so dumb.
Now that I'm older, they seem to get smarter and i seem to know less
everyday.
Respect. that's what it is.
Take salesmen.... please
They respect you as long as your money is visibly hanging
out of your pocket, and JUST out of their reach. However, you will never
rank high with them. Especially not sales people who sell expensive
things like cars, jewelry, or electronics..... they know you can't buy
very much quantity, so once the sale is over so is your relationship.
Ironically most people who are in the market to buy something very
expensive don't even need sales people.
When you go to buy jewelry, you don't want a spiel, you just want to
make an emotional decision. At best a guy needs a woman to put ring
on her finger or dangle a necklace in her to cleavage, both to
flirtatiously entice you to buy, and to show how it would look on your
woman. But noone buying jewelry needs sales help.
When you go to buy a car, the only thing that is going to make your
decision is either A) financial concerns [too cheap looking, too
expensive, no credit at that place etc], or B) emotional considerations
[it drives "good", women will want to do me if i drive this, oooooooh
harlot's lips red!] but you certainly don't need anyone to tell you about warranties,
or fabric options (that's why God invented pamphlets).
When you purchase high end electronics you want somebody who will talk
geek to your geek. Or will talk geek to human conversion for you. Not
somebody who verbally masturbates you and tells you how great the
company is.
The trick is that 99.98 times in 100 you don't feel respect coming from
a salesman. You feel hostility, neediness, or even jealousy at buying the
luxury they purvey but not respect.
The most successful "Sales" people i have met weren't. They were in some
other part of a company, told me the truth, spent time answering my
questions, and made me realize that if I did make the purchase and this
was a person I could deal with again and again.... I would be pleased to
do so!
The worst salesmen i have known could easily be selling anything, from
Tupperware to perfume, to used cars, to stolen shit off the back of a
van... doesn't matter which one and is probably more than one at a time anyway.
So learn to respect those around you. Once you have that mastered then
begin to demand respect for yourself.
-c
remember.... I was never here.
